Pretty subtle and more difficult than usual to see with the circulation damage, but that N of IN looks like the real deal to me. I'm interested to see if others agree.

Agree with John, just the master die doubling that affects about half of all 1972 pennies across all three mints.

If that's a master die doubling. Is that considered an MD?
This image is of another Licoln Penny, is this one a master hub die problem as well?

They are two different things, but both are showing up on the first coin.

First coin-
-The right side of the tail of the 2 is MD
-The N (IN) is from the master die doubling.

Second coin-
-All MD

Read about the die making process ( http://doubleddie.com/58201.html ) to see how/why the Mater die doubling happens and why it's not valuable/collectible, even though it is interesting. (The more common something is the less collectible it tends to be.)

Master die doubling is on the die.
1972-P-LMC-Lincoln-Penny-DDO-005-Or-MD.
Machine Doubling happens after the strike. neither are worth a premium, as they are both common.( Machine Doubling can affect doubled dies as well) MDD affected as many as 50% of all cents that year. Machine Doubling happens on a lot of 1968-1972 cents. Not a collectable coin. More of an education piece to show to a new collector or just a spender.
