Exposed to high heat. Just damage.

Acid Damage. You has the green acidic salt on your coin.

Must be some really high heat. Why wouldn't it effect the reverse. Do you think it was done intentionally?

The both sides has same effect and the green salt on. I took your photos and analyze. Same thing.

heat damage most likely from a torch. The bubble on the obverse is from the clad lifting away from the copper core. The damage does show on both sides, but the obverse looks as if it was the contact point for the flame.

Almost sure that it was done intentionally, but no idea what they were trying to achieve.

I'm in with heat damage--possibly from the use of a hobby-grade torch. We see clad coins with similar damage on this forum yearly.
