@Icutler Good morining! Since 1889,there are no more Three Cent.I I found after 1883 they are quite expensive, especially 1885.They are real gems.

@Adam590 Good morning! Maybe that's the reason why these silver coins are kept.

Nickel in early years are inexpensive, very friendly to me!

Thank you!

The 1885 one is quite scarce and valuable as a business/circulation strike. This being said, the proofs are not expensive. If you want to collect the series, you can do so by getting the proof 1885 at a very reasonable price for a gem proof. I only have one Three Cent Nickel myself--an 1878 one. It is a low mintage, proof only year, but the survival rate is really high, so they aren't even that valuable.

@Slerk You mean people diden't want to spend their silver and gold coins?

Yes, people were hoarding silver and gold. Put yourself in the place of a person who finds himself in a country that is immersed in war, you do not know what will happen tomorrow and whether you will be able to buy food for yourself with the money that is in your pocket. But if you have silver or gold in your pocket, you are sure that you will be able to purchase the goods that you need

The Three Cent Silver, and later the $3.00 Gold and by default the 3CN, were issued to buy Postage Stamps
