I apologize for the so-so pictures. The 1877 Seated quarter looks like it's been cleaned. The reverse has a raised bump along the edge of the shield's lower left side. There is no deformity on the obverse. Did high heat cause this deformity or ? Thanks for the help and your opinions.

Normally yes, heat would cause bubbles but this one is small, so maybe a soldering iron was on it, that would explain the cleaning? That is only a guess.

Damaged on the opposite side of the coin. Note the flatness on the obverse on the lap area right of the shield. What does the reeds look like? I suspect this is a counterfeit?

Reeds look good. It weighs 6.19g. New it would have weighed approximately 6.25g. The area you're questioning doesn't line up with the raised section. Using calipers this location is the lower part of her center chest. The raised portion on the obverse runs about a 45 degree angle. The minor flat area on the obverse looks to be a straight vertical top to bottom.

I doubt it's a counterfeit.

It is genuine, and I don't see damage on the opposite side of the coin. I've seen this type of bubble on silver coins before, not sure what it exactly is.
Suffering from bust half fever.

Here is an overlay for that year:

So the damage is below the neck. There is weakness there.

Those photos do not let me see if it is genuine, I need high resolution to see that.
