Now I purchased these 9 from a friend who was selling me some of their coins as they were getting out of the hobby. I offered him a buying price of $150.00 which he accepted as I was quite pleased overall of these Morgans. They are of course from Littleton coin company and these have little snapshots of historical events which I thought nice, but I like the Morgans for vamming practice. Dates are all Philadelphia 1879, 1884, 1885, 1886, 1887, 1889, 1890, 1896, and 1921. The 1921 I found is vam-3EO so far, and I am working on the other dates. As to condition, I was a wee surprised that the 1887 looks MS-64ish to me! The 1889 is AU-58 to me, and overall nicer circulated the rest of them.

You made out like a bandit! Thought he was your friend?

This is one of those people who likes to make deals, so I must have been offering a price higher than they spent on it perhaps... I sometimes get some superb deals from just about anywhere I see coins for sale, a combination of knowing what to look for, knowledge of varieties, etc...

Doesn't sound like you did your "friend" much of a favor.

Does your friend ever make deals that are better for himself?

After reviewing these again, I am upping the purchase price to $300 now, which they are even more ok with, so that puts these at $33.34 per coin, on average with today's average value of these. So that should make things right...

Gotta say I disagree with the others here. You made your friend an offer and he accepted. You said he was getting out of the hobby, which means he should know the value of his coins, and if he doesn't, that's on him. No one forced him to accept the offer.
But if you are still happy upping the offer, as long as you are both happy then that's what matters.

A nice set! I am sure both involved parties got what they needed from the deal. Why was everyone quick to judge this as the OP taking advantage of their friend, when it is just as (if not more) likely that the friend was giving the OP a great deal because of their friendship?

Melt + 10% is not a bad offer. Some LCS offer worse.

Nice snag. Those coins look to be in nice F - EF type condition, too, maybe better. Post some detailed pictures of each coin if you get the chance.
