I am wondering if any of you coin people might know as to why there is no mintage of the 25 cent and 10 cent Dutch coins of 1952.

I have tried to search up for this reason and have had no help there. I have a few reasons as to why but would like to have an official reason.

I am hunting down a coin set for my Dad's 70th this year, it's a bit difficult haha.

Thanks!

The Korean War resulted in huge demand for nickel. Canada issued Chromium-plated 5 cent coins at this time. Since those Dutch 10 and 25 cent coins were pure nickel, it would account for them not being issued. I can only assume that lack of demand made the Dutch mint decide not to issue them in a new metal.

It may be quite simply because there was no need for those coins in circulation at the time. The Netherlands issued large numbers of 1, 5, 10 and 25 cent coins in 1948 when the country introduced a completely new set of coins following WW2, replacing the ugly zinc coins issued by the Nazis. Then further new coins were required in 1950 with the accession of the new Queen Juliana - it's also quite possible that the wartime zinc coins were not withdrawn immediately but were phased out over three or four years. Therefore maybe by 1952 Dutch banks had huge stocks of 10c and 25c coins and there was no need to issue any that year.

No strikes in 1953 either.
Considering the huge numbers of coins struck in 1950-51 I doubt the needed any in those later years.

Although it is odd that proof sets for other denominations were issued in 52 ad 53 yet the 10c and 25c were not included. Also odd that the proof sets don't seem to have ever included the 1c piece at that time.
