@af, for sure those letters are a bit thicker than normal, but I'm thinking that this is all circulation flattening.

Hi, the coin doesn't seem unusually worn when compared to other quarters. It's actually in pretty good shape. Here's a couple other pictures of the quarter. I set a 1995-D next to the 1994-D to compare too. Thanks

To be honest, the 95 you posted up for a comparison looks to be in much better condition. I'll have to agree that the lettering looks flattened. All sides of the lettering are fat in all directions. Doubling would be in only one direction.

There also could be doubling of the eyebrow or upper eye area? Along the upper bridge of the nose is possibly a notch. Possibly doubling of the tip of the nose? Here's 2 pictures of the area's I'm curious about. Thanks!

Hey Deaborn, The thickness on the letters does appear to go clockwise. The E seems to move clockwise. More at the top then the bottom. The T and the Y also seems to move clockwise. The T seems thicker towards the top then bottom. Here's a few pictures. I pointed to the area's with a red arrow. Thanks!

Looks to be Machine Doubling from a deteriorating die. Notice how the numbers and letters all flow towards the rim.

So I did have another 1994-D quarter to compare this to. The quarter on the left of this picture is the one I'm curious about. Washington on the left coin looks different when compared to the other quarter. His chin seems to go a little further out and the hair roll on the back of his head seems different. The reverse of this coin seems in good condition. Thanks for checking it out!

Here are a couple pictures of the mouth and chin area. The picture with the chin moving out further is the coin I'm curious about. Thanks!

Here's a couple more pictures comparing both 1994-D quarters. I think the thickness in the letters seems to be going clockwise. Thanks!

Hey sorry for all the pictures. However, since I found another 1994-D I wanted to post a few comparison pictures. Could Machine Doubling cause the changes to the tip of the nose, eyebrow area and cause the chin to go out further? Thanks for taking a look!

Your left quarter it is the 1992 VDO and the right it is VDO 1994. So you can not compare the both. The 1992 design has the letters thicker and the border widened. The 1994-1998 the hairline and the curls was sharpened.
