Can anyone tell me if thry think this is a 1953 Nickel-Near-No Shoulder Fold? What I really need help with is why this coin weighs only 4.24g? I hope the pictures help. Beaver22 Valued Member Canada 59 Posts	Posted 10/01/2022 5:59 pm The 1953 nickels are a different weight than one let's say, 1955, because they used chrome plated steel to mint nickels from 1951-1954. This is also true with 1944-1945. They used nickel for another purpose. Report this Post to the Staff
halfamind Pillar of the Community United States 1496 Posts	Posted 10/01/2022 7:18 pm The chrome-plated steel nickel should weigh 4,54 g. Photos show maybe some metal has been lost (corrosion?), especially near the rims. Don't know if that would account for the missing 0.30 g. Report this Post to the Staff
