I have this 1982 large date penny, no mint mark 3.1 grams and instead of "GOD" its "GO9" This looks like a strike error and not external damage. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

I'm with post-strike circulation damage. Have seen similar issues across several decades of collecting/searching. Copper is a relatively soft metal and can be 're'-shaped when hit--especially when hit in a lateral fashion.

I thought so too at first, but look at the outer curved edge of the "D" its mishapen and also the "O" looks mishapen as well. Are you sure its post strike?

I know its hard to tell from the pictures, but upon close inspection with a loop, there is no damage to the surrounding area of the letter. No visible pits scrapes or color changes.

Post mint damage. The D took a blow to mis-shape the letter. Keep searching!
