Hello,

I was just wondering how other collectors feel about duplicate coins in multiple sets. I was reading in Coin World that a special 5 coin Proof Set will be released this spring featuring the new Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar along with the 4 new cents. I already ordered the Commemorative Silver Dollar and that should be here shortly. The 2009 Annual Proof Set will have the 4 new cents in it as well. The only thing is the special proof set cents will be composed of the original 1909 bronze composition. That makes it interesting to me. Also, this is supposed to be a limited edition set. Opinions?

Thanks,
Rich

Coin composition make the sets different based on that fact alone , and we really will not know exactly where the mintages fall or the value based on demand will be for a couple of years after issue , In my opinion all the variations of the 2009 coins should be considered .

I held off on the Abraham Lincoln Commemorative because I'd like to get the four cents with it also. It's limited to 50,000 minted.

I also get the regular proof and uncirculated sets every year, so some duplication is the rule.

As to your question, look at the 1982 Cents. Lots of different ones but still basically the same. Some Copper, some not. Some large dates an some not. Are those really duplicates? Same with all the new Lincolns. probably will end up with several hundred types by the time the Mint is done.

This is discussed in some depth in the "Commemorative" section of the coin forum here.
And I definitely plan on getting one or two of the 50,000 mint limit of these "Special Sets" too !...(if I can)...and duplicates don't bother me at all when it comes to Lincoln......
If it becomes popular and "hard to get through high demand" at some later point in a couple years sooner OR later......then I'll implement the "keep one sell one" theory with pleasure !.....
