Here is a fun coin. S-294 is the crosslet 4 variety of 1814. R-1, so a common variety. this one exhibits a couple interesting errors. it was struck ~20% off center on a blank that had a straight clip. there is a dig/partial hole at k10 on the reverse. other than that the coin is in really nice shape. doubly so for an error and for a classic head cent.

I like it, a seriously cool early error coin!

You had me at "20% off center". All those other things are just footnotes. Spectacular.

The lack of detail in the hair to me means this circulated extensively. Is that right?

yeah, this one circulated for quite a while. I think it grades in the Good 4-6 range.

What a beauty! This is a coin I would gladly own in my collection. Although it may seem strange for this coin to circulate so much, it wasn't unusual for coins from that time period. One cent had buying power! Thanks for sharing a nice piece

Great error, but as you say, a well traveled example. It seems that collecting error coins just wasn't a thing back in early US numismatic history.
