It's kind of a late die stage with fairly extreme slide doubling, but it's still a very high grade RPM-001. The doubled die isn't strong enough to be listed by CONECA, but Wexler does list it as WDDO-002. I'd say it's just as likely to be a bit of die pitting as much as a DDO, but it's listed as such. 1939-S/S Lincoln Wheat cent Doubled Die - RPM-001 (northeast), WDDO-002

Nice condition and Stonemans example sure does bring out the DDO second eyelid very well.

great looking coin (and super images). the RPM is very easy to see and the eye, well not as much, so great eye on that one.

I've seen these striation lines on cents from that year: So they can happen on a normal or die variety coin as well, as it is a post strike alteration on the coin. But a very nice coin with this issue.

Thanks all! And stoneman I will have to pull that out and compare die stages to see what that eye looks like on an earlier stage.

Coop, you are correct. The thing about this particular die is that of the examples I have seen, each and every one has fallen victim to this type of Machine Doubling.

I pulled the coin I got from Stoneman, and yes, on the early die state the doubled eye is pretty distinct as a doubled die not just die pitting.
