Finally got a Nevada quarter in circulation today, from Jack in the box. It's a nice looking quarter in grade and design. Received a new ten yesterday in change...I like the changes. Read a post and got inspired to search for fifty cent pieces from my bank. I found five rolls yet all but a dozen were 1776-1996...No silver. Ok, tommorow is my 3rd day of coin collecting what's next?
Rest in Peace

First, welcome to the forum, ichirensha! Happy to have you with us!

As a new collector, possibly the hardest thing that will be next for you is to determine in what you are most interested and to learn to limit yourself. All of us have this problem no matter how many years we've been collecting coins. Much as it would be nice, we can't collect everything although some of us certainly try. The possibilities are almost endless: moderns, ancients, 19th century, 20th century, cents, nickels, dimes, quarters, halves, mintmarks, etc. For now, you're looking at moderns, particularly halves and State Quarters. What could happen is that you find an "older" silver dime or quarter and get interested in those series. Back in the 50s when I was searching change, occasional Indian Head cents would pop up from time to time. These days, occasional Lincoln wheat cents can still be found in circulation. You never can tell...

You also might want to buy a Whitman coin folder for a particular denomination and try to fill in the holes from circulation. After awhile, you'll find that locating fillers for those empty holes has become an obsession and you start cruising ebay looking for the missing coins. After an album is filled, you move on to the next. It never ends. I decided a few weeks ago to collect the whole series of Flying Eagle cents; there's only five in the series (1856 - 1858 with two key varieties), so it oughtta be easy, right? I've already acquired three, looking at the 1858/7 to fill the fourth. But that 1856 is gonna be a little tougher: only 2500 minted and even the lowest grade runs into thousands of dollars. That may take awhile.

I think the first thing to do is go buy a coin book called the RedBook it has picture of all the US coins and give you a good idea of prices, Also don't go out and just buy coins deside what you like. when I got back into coin that was the advice I found most useful was to read the RedBook. I also went out and bought a lot of grab bag ebay auctions and now that I know a little more about coin I am disaponited in them and all they do is sit in a box and if you just buy whatever right now you will spend to much just on things, but if you do what something to start with I would go out and get yourself a State Quarter book if you do not already have one since most of these you could go and buy a roll of quarters form the bank and probably get most of the ones you need. What I did was I went to 4 diffent coin stores and looked around and then found a series I like and that was Mercury dimes not to expensive and nice looking coins. Hope this help. Also could read thought the forum you will learn alot and go thought the link US coin fact you will learn aot there
Rest in Peace

I'm in Australia and I collect the State Quarter series. I think a full set of 50 is a must for any collector and will look so impressive when completed in a few years time. And for a face value of $12.50 if picked from circulation, has to be the bargain of a lifetime. Of course the amount they make of these coins means that will remain at that value for my lifetime. LOL. But it's a great series to collect.

djluster is 100% correct. Get the RedBook and have a read. A lot of beautiful coins are in that book.

All good advice above...Of course you could search and buy the last of the 1856 Flying Eagle cent and post a picture and tell Morgan Fred about how you got it for under $10. LOL.
