Can't match this to any clash, but Buffalo nickels are not my specialty. There also seem to be some small raised bits above the hair and maybe elsewhere but they only show up in the full coin pics as just can't see them with my macro lighting.j

Any help figuring this one out would be appreciated. The anomaly is raised, not incuse, and just doesn't really look like a die dent issue.

Thanks!

Does this coin have a rotated reverse?

The reverse seems to be just where it should be without any rotation

Is that a die chip by the lower eye lid cheek area as well?
Interesting coin

They are interesting marks, is there some on the reverse as well below the buffalo's chin. The only thing that comes to mind is Feeder Finger Damage to the die(s). There might be some past threads with some images of this on Lincoln cents from Coop, I can't remember seeing examples on Buffalo nickels offhand, really cool find. Thanks for sharing.

Feeder Finger Damage during this era has a different look.
This cent is from eight years later but showes feeder finger "scrapes" to the reverse die. A different look. A scrape not a dent.

That Lincoln is 1937-S DDO-001 late die state. But you knew that!

Thanks for all the great comments! Still hoping for a solid idea on what the thing is, but it is odd so maybe just will be an unknown. As for the eye, there is a die mark right in the crook of the eye, but none really below it.

The field below the long feather and the buffalo's chin seems uneven, almost "bumpy". And the third feather that usually disappears from die polishing is still strong.

Could this be an example of uneven die wear that hasn't been polished out?
Maybe even a die subsidence error?

There even appears to be die flow lines on the chief's temple. Is that normal for the series?
