Probably the affected area was next to a wet canvas bag issue. On the Struck through cloth, the material is pressed into the surface of the coin.

IMHO this coin was under a humid cloth and drying due to the UV's stain like this. If incuse we discuss about other think. I say humidity has a roll here because I see the green oxide form only on the points.

Yes my vote is for surface staining also. When I blow up the image, I'm not seeing a variation in the height of the fields.

When I enlarge the image and look at the field above the V (LIVE FREE) there appears to be contour to the surface not just staining.

Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
