Found this coin/medal in southwest Florida near a canal. I've been searching google for images of Spanish coins and I think it may be from Mexico but I have no idea.

Welcome to the Coin Community Family!
It looks like both photos are of the same side. For any ID request it's best to show photos of both sides, and to state the diameter to the nearest mm and the weight to the nearest tenth of a gram. Having said this, (and I am no expert on Spanish coins), it looks to me like this is a fantasy piece, of modern manufacture and not closely resembling known coins.

@jda, first welcome to CCF. Second, I think you have a modern pirate token. You can buy these on line for pirate-themed parties.

Spence is correct; it's a "pirate party replica" of a Spanish gold coin. The design on this one is rather crude; it looks like it was made from a copy of a drawing or rubbing of a coin, rather than from an actual coin. People buy these coins in bulk, then bury them on the beach and see if the kids can "find the pirate treasure". Looks like the kids didn't find this one.

And it's not solid gold, or even solid brass. You can see the notch on the edge over on the left hand side where a piece of the coin has corroded away, showing the silver-coloured pewter underneath.

I wasn't sure if this was real or fake but it was found in the dirt under a large tree that had uprooted from the hurricane. Right before posting I previewed my post and did upload both sides of this coin.

If you tried to post up both sides, it didn't work - one factor I learned the hard way is to never re-use a file name, once an image is uploaded that name is locked in and if you save a coin to the same name, it will only show the original image, not the new one.

I appreciate all the help.

What threw me off was that it was discovered under the roots of this tree. Not exactly an easy place to hide a coin.

@jdal, yes that is a very odd place to find this token indeed. Even though this piece has no numismatic value, it still is a pretty cool story!
