I've always been more of a coin collector, but over the years I've built up a small collection of paper currency as well. In terms of volume, most of it is non-US world notes. In terms of dollar value, it's mostly in the US notes.

My coin collection is extremely organized. I have Whitman and Dansco albums that I store my personal collection sets in, slab boxes for graded coins, and all duplicates and extras that I want to sell are organized in 2x2s in labeled boxes. Any proof sets, commemoratives, etc. that came in Mint packaging are stored in stackable plastic totes labeled with a reference number. All of my world coins are in 2x2s in binder pages stored in identical 3" D-ring binders with the spines labeled with its contents. Miscellaneous coin silver is stored in stackable hard plastic square tubes kept in ammo boxes. Everything is cataloged in a spreadsheet making it easy to find anything at a moment's notice. The level of organization for all of that is intense.

Paper currency is a different matter.

I have no idea how to effectively store this stuff in a neat way. Ideally, I would like to store everything within individual sleeves which are then stored in binder pages, but I am having a hard time finding currency sleeves of the appropriate size that fit in the pages. A lot seem to be just too wide, by a 16th of an inch or so. That, or the odd sizes of the notes require sleeves that are wide enough but way too tall, and the sleeves stick out. I have a box of 3-slot pages and another box of 4-slot pages. The easiest solution is of course to not use sleeves at all, but I don't really want to do that. The next easiest is to cut the sleeves down as needed, which I might do. It would just be nice to know if there are certain brands of sleeves that are designed to fit in pages as is.

I realize that no matter what, there will not be a single simple solution that works for everything. I'll probably have to get creative for the really small and really large stuff. That's fine, I'm just hoping to find a solution that will work for 75% or more of what I have and then I'll figure out the rest. I have yet to create some sort of sheet that catalogs everything by exact dimensions, so that's going to be one of the first things I do just so I know what I have and what I need to do.

How do you guys store and organize your collections? Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Every collector is different.
I had a large collection that I recently sold and the only albums I owned were used for 4-subject and 8-subject sheets. Currency sleeves are manufactured to fit the notes, not the albums. Most of the albums are typically made to fit graded notes. Albums can be hard to fit into safe deposit boxes. I used currency boxes designed to hold paper money in "standard" Mylar currency sleeves. I kept the graded notes I owned in zippered bank bags.

Acetate or Mylar album pages are needed for banknote storage / display.

Everyone might collect different sized notes or have preference about the sleeves such as loading from top, or thickness.
Personally I had started originally using something basic for lower cost notes like Supersafe Museum Grade Currency Sleeves - Modern https://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/pr...-modern.html and a simple box instead of a binder/album originally like https://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/currency-boxes/ but there are quite a number of options depending on the costs (a high end collection or a basic collection such as fancy serials) and the size of the collection, whether you have graded notes or not etc. Albums/binders are useful to display collections vs storage. You could take a look at the different options at wizardcoinsupply for example to see what jumps out for your individual needs as they have quite a number of options: https://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/pr...cy-supplies/

As an obsolete collector (rag picker!) specializing in small change notes, I like the holders where the top edge is folded over. A lot of the notes I have are pretty limp so its easier to open the holder and place the note into the holder and then fold the edge back over. They also are open at each end so it makes them easy to trim to fit any album slots as well. They do seem to be a bit lighter than the top loading holders but if they are placed in an album its not important.

I know exactly which sleeve you're referring to. Collectors either love'em or hate'em.

The one I mentioned in my post (Supersafe Museum Grade Currency Sleeves - Modern) is a fold over type which I liked for modern smaller notes, and yes they are a bit thinner. https://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/pr...-modern.html I can see why they are loved or hated and so I linked to the other options for sleeves and albums that can hold sleeves since everyones preference may be different. Feel free to come back and post your experience with any others you try.

Cutting down the folder over sleeves is a good idea. I might try to find a paper slicer to help speed up the process. So far, I ended up getting some of the fractional sized sleeves which can fit in the 4 pocket sheets as well as some 3x5 sleeves to fit in the postcard sheets of the same size. That, along with the standard sized sleeves and 3 pocket sheets takes care of a good 80% of what I have to my satisfaction, so customizing the fold over sleeves might do the trick for the rest. Thanks!
