I have a coin with this reverse. Never thought much of it but a 1/25th bullion coin. Now I've seen others with this reverse. With varying obverses... mine has a German politician on it. Some have other people, places, whatever... but, this chest must identify a non-recognized mint(like Franklin, National Collectors, Hamilton, etc Mints). I can't find squat on it with Google. Is it part of a set, or just a common reverse for the manufacturer... and who/where/etc.
Thanks!

What is the mark on the side of the chest? Looks like a logo and 585. That looks like it might be the manufacturer.

The .585 is meaning 14kt. I believe the other marking is just a 14kt hallmark beside the more universal .585... it's so poorly formed, I can't tell with any certainty. There are other reverses almost identical to this one, but the .585 is on the chest and there is no hallmark.

I'm believing the chest is the company's/mint's logo. I've already translated/Googled the inscription. Whatever it was, it didn't lead me to any info the coin's maker.

edit... Aye, here's what I mean.

I googled that phrase and came up with; https://www.lot-tissimo.com/de/cmd/...3504/auk/36/

I don't understand what is described on the page, but it is 14K gold, looks to be a 1/10 Krugerrand. If you could find a picture to compare it might answer your question.

What is on the other side?

Yeah, I found that before too. That is a German classifieds ad with someone selling a couple Krugerrand tenths along with one of the coins in question.

I have seen quite a few of these chest reverses, so a picture is not really what I'm after.

You will also find these Latin words (HAEC AVTEM OVAE PARASTI CVIVS ERVNT) in a 5-6 century Dutch(?) opera... believe me I've Googled.

The othe side of the coin is a bust of Richard Von Weizsacker(German political figure) & 1996.

That motto seems to be a reference to the Bible (Luke 12, 20) where it says "quae autem parasti, cuius erunt?" If you look the verse up, you'll find a lot of translations ... basically something like "And the thing you have prepared, to whom will they belong?"

Richard von Weizsäcker was president of the Federal Republic of Germany between 1984 and 1994. So I guess the year "1996" does not really refer to him but might be the year of issue.

That is profound... thank you.

Where will my collection be in ten years, fifty years, a hundred or a thousand years

...ah, back to the shallows of reality. Me Latin Bible has gone missing and my Latin was always on the remedial side. I wonder how the additional words HAEC & OVAE change that meaning, if at all. Babel and Google translate don't do Latin. It still all deep though.

I appreciate the info... makes me wanna find the manufacturer and what they've produced even more.

Well, "haec" means these (n.pl.), so it would be "these things" etc. The "ovae" are not there ; in classic Latin they used V for both U and V, and the chest hides part of what is probably a Q. My Latin has become pretty rusty, and as for the Bible, well, I'm not religious, but especially on older coins you find a lot of Latin mottos, like quotes from the gospels. Now as for your medal, here is a similar one, offered in an auction:
https://www.hood.de/auction/28588018/kaufen.cfm
According to the auction description and the "certificate" it was sold by Münzkontor Göde:

That Münzkontor is here http://www.muenzkontor.de/ but it seems they don't have them any more. That company sells a somewhat odd mix - neat coins but also many "self made" medals which are somewhere between tacky and trashy. Anyway, a while ago they made a whole series called "Kostbarkeiten in Gold", all with that chest on one side. Here http://www.goldseitenforum.de/index...hreadID=8108 is a discussion (in German) of such issues. So yes, "non-recognized mint" pretty much sums it up ...
