I originally thought the "V" on the middle arrow was PMD, but then saw the exact same marking on another posters picture. I haven't seen this listed as a VAM. Additional information on this marking would be great.

A full, clear shot of the obverse and reverse would be nice. You do realize how many different types of 1878 P's there are? 1878 P is a bit vague. Not for sure but would say what you are seeing is coincidental damage, between your coin and the other you have seen.
