Can anyone tell me what this is or it's value? Looks like it was used as some kind of award for dedicated service or employment.

@dar, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks to me like you have a corporate giveaway item. You might be able to find someone who has an emotional attachment to this event, but strictly from a numismatic standpoint this half dollar is going to only be worth face value.

Agree with Spence, it is considered a damaged coin once it was plated so unless
you can find someone who collects their sort of thing, it's numismatic value is 50 cents.

its considered damaged as its post mint. Plated coins have little resell value and need to go towards someone that actually collects those types of coins. The nice thing about this one in particular is that it has history and can be traced to the origins of the plating.

@darcimer: The marketplace value of this type of item isn't typically based on the value of the coin embedded in it - especially when it is a common, low-value coin.

As has been noted, the most-willing buyer would likely be someone that has an attachment to the subject company or the electronics industry in general.

There are collectors of embedded coins - not many, but I've met a few - and such a collector would be another potential buyer.

I've seen these type of things sell in the $10-$20 range - some less, some more. You won't likely be able to retire on proceeds from the sale of your piece but its sale should yield you a drink and a snack from a convenience store.

Also, welcome to CCF!

Thank you for all the wonderful comments. It's definitely could be a corporate giveaway item, and I suspect they may have some sentimental value to people in the area, but I won't expect much more than that.
All your responses are greatly appreciated.
