Hi, please help me - I am new collector. Are proof this coin or not, because in my catalog there is different price for regular and for proof austrian 5 shilling 1960 (only 1000 mintage proof coins). I have other similar coins but only this is with mirror effect. Thanks.

Your question raises another equally interesting question.

First of all let me observe that--I think--your coin has been pretty heavily polished. If you look at the main obverse device for instance, the high points have been rubbed shiny, while in the inner edge between the horseman and the flat fields there's still an outline of whatever substance was previously covering the coin.
I would generally assume that a coin that has gotten this kind of polishing-cleaning was probably never a proof coin. But the question that I'd be interested to hear more veteran members of the forum address is this: what does a proof coin that's been improperly cleaned even look like?

Best regards bobo13, and welcome to the forum!

The coin is clean, no pollution and is in high grade. Quite different from the others and I think it is proof, but unfortunately I am not very good photographer ...

Here is a web site which give some nice photos of the coin you have posted,
http://www.austriancoins.com/coinsc...ngminor.html
I agree with seriousceres, the photos that you have posted shows that the protected areas of the coin are dull in color when compared to the field. If you compare your photo to the web site above and look between the back 2 legs you will see that the whole coin should look like.

On a proof version of this coin, the "raised" elements (horse/rider on one side, CoA/wreath on the other side) would appear frosted, and the "background" would be shiny. I don't see that here ...

I agree with you, I have almost no experience with coins.
Thanks for your help!
