I don't think this will grade very good. The counter stamp does not help.

I wouldn't call this a counter stamp. I've seen this kind of damage called Graffiti, and no, it's not a good thing for the coin.

Edit: OH, that counter stamp! I completely missed that the eagle was laying an 'R egg' when I looked the first time. While counter stamps can add value and are collectable, this one may be too far gone.

The OP is referring to the upside down R stamped on the reverse, not the graffiti scratches on the obverse. OP, this is not worth sending in for grading.

Regardless of the graffiti and stamp, this coin is too far worn for anything other than melt value.

I'll say F/VF details (counter-stamped).

This is a duplicate thread to the coin shown in US Modern Coins forum. Let's combine them please.

Given that back in the pre-Hobby-Protection-act era an "R" counterstamp often signified a "replica", I would say the authenticity of the coin is suspect.

Its clear you like coins if your chasing walking liberties, but as mentioned already, this coin does not merit grading either for the grade or preservation of the coin to preserve the coin surface, as its worn already. I always ask myself, would I buy this coin if it was in slab and if so why? The first answer for me is no relative to your coin.

BUT, I would weigh the coin and determine if its within the range and I would check out the post on R for replica, I have never heard of that issue but I am googling it soon. If you had a replica, that is a keeper just for fun.
