I have a 1988 D Lincoln Cent with doubling on date and on mint mark.possibly doubling on ear

Probably typical on an aging die that was over polished to remove DDD stages. Probably if we would have seen the whole coin, the motto devices will show over polishing. Thus the over polishing removed part of the ears sub devices.

Note how weak the motto devices are. Your coin is probably also showing this as well. Thus the polishing of the die weakened the bub devices of the ear. On a doubled year, the devices will be enlarged on the hubs design, not reduced as seen on die polishing.
