I thought type 1 has a filled s and type 2 has a clear s and the example I've posted is clearly not filled and has no similarity to type 1 s examples I've looked at.
The 1979-S also had a Type1 and 2 The 1979-S type 2 S is same as the 1981-D Type 1. As the punch was used the more the punch closed up more on the 1981-S dies. Thus the fresher Type 2 punch on the 1981-S will be the fresher new punch. (Everything ages, even steel as well)
@coop I looked at the coin again and I think I'm starting to feel the difference between type 1 and 2 of the 1981-S. I have a terrible drawing of both types and that's the indicator I'm looking at to identify right now. Please take a look at the drawing and see if that's a good indicator to identify the types. In conclusion, I agree with you. My coin is a Type 1.
