Washington Quarters. my question is, please I dont know your coinage well enough for that I am sorry. my question Silvio showed me a catalogue numbers for these quarters RDV-000. the question is RDV-000 can this be used for any other coins other than quarters. the reason I ask is because I have never seen these number before being used until tonight. the coins are not quarters. these coins were being auctioned off with these same catalogue numbers so is this just a generic code for any coins. I thought that would make it just to quarters. please correct me if I am wrong that way I will learn. thank you all so very much

These numbers are from Variety Vista. They have several different areas showing design differences: (How to use these listings?) First for a series, click on the first listings. Often they will contain more information, that the later pages won't show. http://www.varietyvista.com/01a%20L...01/index.htm Use this first page to get the information on the different ODV-RDV information for wheat cents: Note the choices on that page. Some listing are different on the other denominations. But usually the first page choices cover more of the series information, that the later pages might not include. (So use the first choices first) Then if need be check other pages. DDO and DDR and RPMs may have their own tabs. But design varieties and RPM punch information on the the first pages on this site. (Each site is different though) http://www.varietyvista.com/01a%20L...arieties.htmNote this page has two choices?http://www.varietyvista.com/01a%20L...20Styles.htmNote on this page the mintmark punches listings. (Keep in mind, most of the time, the mintmark punches the same for different denominations. But they will probably show this on the other links with the right coin base metal. So from the Home page, you can find this information on each series. Hope this helps with your question. How to find more information on the sites? CoopHome: How can I find more information on the difference series of coins? Variety Vista site for finding more information is helpful. Each site shows different things, so click and see where/what can be found. 32

Yes Rocky, RDV it is an abbreviation for Reverse Design Varieties. John, COOP, answer perfect. VV put RDV for easy go for those varieties. You will find others abbreviations also for same RDV. The VV made very simple, but in fact we have different type of Design varieties which touch many RDV's. EX: Quarters Type II is find in RDV-002 as IIa, in RDV-008 as IIb and I can go so long. Every coins indifferent of the denomination has differents RDV's or ODV's. This it is a very fascinating face of US coins collecting.

Rocky the 1966-D are in RDV-003, 004 and 005. The 004 and 005 are common ones. The most interesting it is RDV-003 which was not confirmed till this year in April when I find one. This it is type IIIo. The hint to distinguish it is the N in UNUM which has sheriff.
