I found a 1976 d penny and noticed on the word America on back that there is an extra "A" laying on its side beneath the first "A" in America.. is this something that happens often on coins? And it looks like Lincolns temple is unusually deep..

I hope I did post this correctly.

Perhaps a die chip next to the A in America?

If you took another A and turned it sideways top towards the M then stamped the second A on top upright that's what it appears to be to me .... Is that what's called Repunched Letter(RPL)?

Doesn't look like another A to me you would see the other half to the left of the A that is on top I'm not an expert but could also be a small lamination

I think it's a die chip as Mr. Frog suggested. It can't be re-punched, as the letters are engraved on the die using a Hub as a guide. Only the Mint Mark would have been punched on the obverse die used for this coin.

The indention at Lincoln's temple seems to be contact damage to me.

The coin has seen a lot of circulation over the last 46 years!

re you using your cell to take your pictures?
If so, use the ''Zoom'' function built in to your camera app - say to x3 or x4 then let your camera focus well on the area you are trying to show us and post up again please.
