Your coin is very common for the 1876's. Many were struck and that called for many dies. The punch or matrix that strikes your dies looks just like a typewriter key with all elements projected, in order to make the recessed die. The little thin parts upper and lower on the "D" broke very easily, so every coin struck with the die or dies that were made with the damaged punch will have the same "strange" D. I have some where both the upper and lower thin parts of the D are missing. It adds no value.
