Hello,

This is my very first post in here. I'm from Belgium so sorry for my poor english. I'm a complete newbie about coins, but I need to learn 'cause I'm willing to sell a coin I've received 20 years ago (or maybe not, depends...). I made some searches around and it seems that the value of the coin mainly depends on its grade. So I'd like to have your "expert" opinion about it. Thanks for your time ! Here it is:

Hi Sebb

Welcome to the forum !!

I will tell you right off, Gold coins are not one of my favorites to grade,, so I may in fact be conservative on your coin !! and with the inherent difficulty of grading from pics please be patient and wait for other responses to get a concensus grade opinion on your coin !!

That being said,, I see the coin as an AU-55, although hits are not uncommon on this type of coin, where they are makes a difference on how the coin will grade, the large hits on the cheek and the slight rub(breaks in the luster on the cheek and hair details) that I see (unless it is a photo and lighting anomoly) along with the two major hits on the reverse and likewise the rub that appears on the coin keeps the grade at a relatively low level on this coin.

Thanks for the quick reply !

Let's wait for more opinions. I'll try to host the original pictures on my website this evening, so more details will be visible.

First of all, welcome to our CC family!

I don't see any rub or wear on this coin, but I do see the hits that Rick mentioned but it also seems to have very nice luster. I think it's a low MS coin - MS60-61. I think the areas that look like rub are from the lighting.

I am not a expert on gold coins but I would also say its a ms-61 coin. If it werent for the long mark on the cheek and the two on the reverse in the field beside eagles wing this would grade alot higher. I have to ask, were these marks there when you received the coin or was it 20 years of your storage/viewing the coin that made the marks mentioned?

Honestly I don't know. I did not manipulate it a lot, so I guess these happened before.

Thanks again for you inputs.

After viewing those images, I stand behind my MS61 grade.
