Where did you get the idea they are rare, there were about
1 billion 800 million struck.
Is there something special about this one? Please elaborate.

It is not rare. Worth face value.

A closer-in pic of the mint mark--without the harsh lighting--might show something interesting.

most people I meet think coins like this are rare because they have never seen one before. its more than 60 years old. I dont see them often unless I'm at a coin show. learning the rarities in coins is a lifelong persuit. I certainly dont know all the key dates in all the series and ive been doing this for more than 30 years.

@smp7898 - there is a free phone app called coinfacts made by a company called PCGS. they are one of the big third party grading companies. the app has all sorts of mintage data, metal composition information and grading guides. its a great source of information about all sorts of american coins. I use it all the time. check it out!

I'm seeing copper value in this coin: 2.2 cents as of the last I checked.

It's a pretty common date as far as copper cents are concerned, though, so it's not worth any premium above that except in really nice uncirculated condition (which this one obviously is not).
