Hi! This is my first post, and am not sure this is correct forum, but here goes: I recently paid $87 for a Washington Mint one ounce silver copy of a Grant $50 bill. Certificate of Authenticity says it's number 816 out of 5000 total mintage.

Just curious if it's worth keeping, or is it something worth just over silver melt that I should return while return window is open?

Thanks for any replies!

-Thomas

Thomas, I'm not familiar with Washington Mint, so have no idea if this has any collector value. But with silver ~ $20/ounce, this is not something that I would have dropped $87 on.

I haven't received it yet, just ordered, but I have 30 day return window ( ebay) when received. If I don't receive any more replies, I am likely to return it. Four-ounce Washington Mint Grant silver proofs from 1998 are going at rates from $140 to $200. I could probably get a few Silver Eagles for the same amount by looking for deals, but the markup on them is insane.

I wish things were like they were a few years ago when I was purchasing items like NGC PF69 1987 Silver Eagles for $17 apiece by looking around.

The margins on silver bullion are crazy right now. ASEs are going for 2X melt value. I think I'll stay away.

I returned it. I agree with Hondo that a one ounce silver proof just isn't worth $87.

Recently, I've been offering $3-4 apiece on ebay for Sixties Kennedy 40 percent silver half dollars that have free shipping.

thomaski, I always check https://www.silverrecyclers.com/Cal...culator.aspx before considering a purchase of silver coins. The prices you're quoting on the 40% silver Kennedys are not bad at all.

I just purchased 30 silver Kennedy half dollars for $106 total, including tax. The purchase was slightly over melt price, but seeing some of the posts on here about no one wanting these half dollars, it makes me wonder if I should avoid them in the future.
