@sil, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks to me like this cent has been damaged. About a third of it has been "squished".

to the CCF As that could not happen when the coin was struck, that means it is damage of some sort.

Post mint damage. The error is in calling this CENT a "penny", it's called a CENT.

First to the form Silver1985 Secondly, this is how I receive my cents from the bank. Thirdly, Silver, FYI, as per forum rules capitalization denotes yelling here. Therefore someone just yelled at you instead of offering a welcome and offering you a helpful opinion on your inquiry. I usually tend to disregard the opinions of those that insist on using capitalized responses especially for trivial subject matter and constantly do so with no repercussions. I try to concentrate on the subject of question instead of the semantics of your question as most here do as well. Lastly, I apologize to you being a new member to the forum on behalf of myself and most others here for getting yelled at because your semantics are an error! Hang in there and learn alot here, for you will as I have over time.

Quote: The error is in calling this CENT a "penny", it's called a CENT. Please just stop it. The US mint even teaches kids that they're pennies for crying out loud. If the people that MAKE them call it a penny it's perfectly fine for collectors to call it a penny. I've tried emailing you with no response so here we are. It's getting very annoying. One person quit over it because it was their first post.

It is perfectly fine to call them a penny as long as you know the correct name is on the coin itself John1
