Got this one plus a couple others from a dealer last week. Other than the wackadoodle spacing on the date, they covered their tracks pretty well after sculpting the first 4 into a 1. Only at high magnification do the scratches start to show up.

To the inexperienced, this would probably look like the real deal.

I agree, to the noobs this coin would be dangerous.

Yeah, I do think it's kind of cool getting a chance to see what shenanigans folks have gone to in order to try and pass off a fake coin. Next up will be to see if we can figure out where the counterfeit 2007 Washington dollars came from.

Nice example.

I can't tell by your photo, so please advise what did the counterfeiters do with the VDB on Lincoln shoulder?

I should have photographed that as well, but the counterfeiters did in fact nicely buff off the VDB on the shoulder as well. They knew to do that.

The spacing and the shape of the 4 make it an obvious counterfeit, but it's exceptionally well done! I'm sure it would fool a lot of people.

Easily detected by whether or not VDB is on the obverse portrait.

Adding an image of the lower bust to show the loss of the VDB. A surprising amount of work went into this area so they were well aware of the importance of removing the letters.
