Bestjet, your one thin dime is incredibly curious! And your pics are great. It seems to be very well struck. The third picture is not an indication that the diameter is less than a normal dime, as the reeding indicates otherwise. And can you provide us with the weight? Waiting for the experts to decipher it!

Weight is 2.1-2.2. Comp dime is 2.2-2.3. as I only have a single decimal point scale. Its a harbor freight digital with g, oz, dwt, and ozt.

Is the diameter the same as a non thin dime?

The best I can figure is that the planchet was thin yet the dies were able to make an "acceptable" coin. Still hoping an expert will weigh in here.

FYI @Best I bought one of those from Harbor Freight got it home and realized it only went out to .1 the returned it. You really need one that goes out to .01. I found a review and bought one on Amazon about a month ago. It has worked great. Paid like $9 or $10 for it. It's called Weigh Gram Digital Pocket Scale. I would really try that.

Could it be possible that this dime was in a bezel at one time? The reeded edge looks compressed or tapered a little. The reeds on it do look thinner, but over all the coin looks to have a normal thickness. Refer to pic 3.

Thx MNCTM, I'll do that. And Dearborn, I'm not sure but that is itty bitty teeny weeny (not polka dot bikini), thin, precise and all the other words I can think of for someone to do to it. Guess it could be done and hopefully some of the other major minds here can give us a better clue. I just know it's a pretty cool keeper regardless.

The last image looks like a bent coin. So the coin may have been altered post strike?

No coop, it`s not bent. Just the way the picture looks. Optical illusion.

thickness varies, as can be seen if you put a fresh mint roll of coins into a plastic coin tube, sometimes there will be room in the tube for an extra coin or two because on average the coins of that groups were a little thinner

Like I said, it looks like (IMHO) that it was contained in a bezel at some point
