I'm trying to get the hang of how to figure out which stage a coin has.

This coin has Cudsoncoins Spike # SKH-1c-1962D-03 and looks to have VV # 1962-D RPM-003 but looks to have an extra vertical bar inside MM.

The depression at the right eave tip has a crack at the top which looks more so than stage D. The depression doesn't look as large/deep as C or D.
The Die Chip on column 12 looks larger than the others.

My question is.
What stage would this fall under?

Thank you for your help.

If your talking about the second to last picture it looks like the die sticking to the planchet pinching the copper. As far as what stage I don't believe I understand the question better ask NGC!

Differences on die states and die stages that Variety Vista uses?
Die States are the aging of the die and breaks down to three letter designations on the each die state.
VEDS (Very Early Die State)
EDS (Early Die State)
LEDS (Late Early Die State)
So there would be a total of 9 different die States. To determine these you have to have a very trained eye.
So mostly the the EDS, MDS, LDS die states are considered. (VLDS is used many times pointing to what a very worn die is designated) Copper coins only uses three different die states on their listings. But the LDS/ VLDS is the most observed differences.

Die Stages on Variety Vista, they are considering the the different die events and often show die replacements and die states on their listings. Thus on some dies that have a long run, they may have many different die states that they may list. That is the differences between the Die Stages and Die States. Hope this helps.

CoopHome: What is the difference between "Die States" and "Die Stages"? states= the die aging process, stages=die event that happen to a die that are really noticed
