1902 5 Cent Grade? Super Die Clashed

2rtgah678 Valued Member Canada 291 Posts	Posted 11/17/2022 6:51 pm Got this really nice looking MS 1902 5 cent silver, it looks at least MS64 to me has great full luster and has a bunch of die clashes, behind the kings neck in front is neck, top right of his crown, top of the crown on the reverse and above the T and S in cents under the C and A of Canada and it has a super faint 9. Silver101 Pillar of the Community Canada 1081 Posts	Posted 11/18/2022 05:07 am I'm not seeing MS either. The leaves on the reverse are certainly worn. Not heavily so, and the crown at the top is in outstanding shape. But that coin has seen some circulation for sure. Ed's moustache for example has a little wear. Are you using some kind of filter for those photos? The slight blue wash over everything might be obscuring something but I'm not seeing all that much lustre either. Report this Post to the Staff

okiecoiner Pillar of the Community Canada 5585 Posts	Posted 11/18/2022 3:15 pm Well, ICCS doesn't really look at the Rev of most coins that they grade. When you have a weak strike, it is normally only weak on one side. On this coin, it is on both, the worse being the Rev, but even his shoulder on the Obv doesn't show a good strike or it is from wear. It's not that ICCS does not make mistakes. I think that it's wear, myself. Silver at .900 is very soft and striking is very easy. If it was nickel, there would be a chance for a "both sides" weak strike, but not Ag in my opinion.
