To an experienced collector of Republic of China coins,

I happened to come across an old book of coins, but I can't tell if these are authentic and worth grading. I'm new to coin collecting and just want to know if you would spend the money to grade all 39 coins -- which is over $1500 to do so, which is a lot of money for me.

None of the coins are magnetic and I can take more pics or weigh all the coins in a future reply.

I uploaded a HD video of the whole book:

I took a picture of one of the coins (front and back). I'm a new collector and haven't ever collected coins before.

First you should think about why you want coins to be graded. Some collections are just graded coins, but many people collect ungraded coins. Personally I have no desire grade any of my coins. But if you goal is selling these coins then grading would probably be useful. But before spending $1500 just walk into a coin shop and discuss the coins with the owner.

After the magnet test, the next step at authentication would be finding good images of genuine coins and comparing. There are many sources, Numista is often a good place to check. For your coin take a look at https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces17822.html . That looks like your coin, but look in detail at the THE in the legend. The large serifs on your coin suggest to me it is a copy.

These are very modern counterfeits.

I would ask for your money back.
