Very thick square or rectangular copper coins are very common in the Mughal period.
I was visiting Mumbai in 1970, and I bought about a half dozen copper dump coins for something like a dollar each (in 2022 values). At he time, I hadn't a clue what I was buying, but they seemed cheap enough.
As it has turned out, (I had no idea) that taking heritage coins out of India was a jailable offence, and I am sure that some officious administrator would have pushed that policy to the limit, to earn brownie points from his boss, even for a few low valued common coins. I have seen this sort of thing happen since then.
Hindsight tells me I was lucky to get away with it. Other tourists have been jailed.
