I have a 1986 S Kennedy Proof Half Dollar with a very nice finish. Uncirculated in a proof. Does this finish look to be a deep cameo? It is frosted with mirror finish on both sides. How would you guys grade this and would you consider this to be one to send out for grading?

A 1986 Deep Cameo Proof ungraded is worth about $7.00- 8.00. Not worth spending about $60.00 to get it graded

Awesome, just started really paying attention to all the coins that I do have but I am really lost when it comes to what is actually valuable and what isn't, which I have the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter all 1986 S Mints with the Cameo. Could you help me understand the difference between proof and uncirculated. As I assumed that uncirculated are just that. I had bought these coins in a box with lots of other coins juts thrown together someone had found during a remodel so I started actually paying attention to them this year. All these 1986 S mint coins that I have doesn't look to be at all circulated as the finish on front and back are mirrors, and absolutely no marks, or scuffs, scratches at all. I am being very cautious when handling them while using a pair of gloves and not touching anything but edges.

Lookatmyak79, Proof is a special minting process not a grade. Special dies are used as well as special planchets with increased pressure along with being struck at least two times. Uncirculated just means a coin has not been "used" in general commerce. If you are going to get into numismatics you need to get yourself a " Red Book" and read it cover to cover, ignore the values in that book. John1

Greatly appreciated, the Red Book you say? As of now I am using the book, A Guide Book of United States coins 2022, 75th Edition. It's a little outdated but I got it from a friend for nothing. This isn't perhaps the book you was referring to by chance? This one is very informative. And being the beginner that I am. I get overwhelmed at times then it's like I almost confuse myself and start confusing coins, then naming issues, to cladding. But I'm slowly learning I feel. So hopefully sooner than later I won't have such foolish questions for y'all and be able to pass some knowledge of my own at times.

Same book. Does not matter if it is a few years old,you are reading it for the info not the coin values. John1
