I've been wanting this coin for years now, ever since I started trying to fill in a set of the Australian Pre-Decimal penny. Today was the day, I found one and I had the money for it! I was looking for this coin specifically at the show this morning, and when I found it I was somewhat surprised. It wasn't priced, so I asked the dealer, (the wonderful Mr. Chase of Chase Coins, Houston Texas) what the price was, he proceeded to look it up. (Which I am glad, because if he'd said two or three dollars the way most dealers do on Aussie pennies, I'd have asked him to look it up anyway.) I think he was surprised at the catalog price, and offered me a very nice deal on the coin. I'm not sure if he thought I would accept it or not, and I did have to check my wallet to see if I had enough cash, but thank goodness I did! Mine. :D And now my Pre-Dec penny set is as complete as I will ever be able to do; missing only the famed 1930.

Yah! You finally got it! And I bet it was a lot cheaper than you would find it over here. And great to see you again.

I have a 1922. I wonder if there's a way to invert the last 2...

Hi EK... I'm sure no expert, but if you paid under AU$400. 00 then you're well in front - and this date is highly sought after. And don't wanna make you weep, but found the following coin during demolition a couple years back. And besides is the 'Broken N' variety to boot! So congatulations on your purchase. Cheers, Les

Quote: I so hope he quoted from Krause. Oh, quite definitely so. In fact, he quoted me the catalog price of the coin in VF condition at $220, and then said he'd take $160. That was the lowest he could go. I'm so glad that dealers here in the states have no real clue what Numismatic treasure they're sitting on. I think it is the 46 penny that comes in third in rarity, yes? I picked that one up for about two dollars, and it's in VF-XF condition too. It's good to see you too Kurt and Sean. I've been lurking, but I haven't been purchasing coins for a bit. Therefore, I've had nothing to post, really. I should be around from now on. Les, I'm sorry to say that my 1925 isn't the broken N variety. It's all there under a magnifier. Congratulations on your magnificent find! It's always great to find those rare coins, isn't it? I'm sure people get tired of my telling, but I have had two great opportunities myself. Bought a bag of mixed world coins for $25, and found a Kiao chou 5 cent piece in it, worth about three times the price I paid for the lot. The rest of the coins were grade A world coins too, none of the common rubbish one usually finds. Second, in the bargain bin, I found a stack of about six brilliant red 5 centavo coins from Portuguese Guana, in Africa. Those coins catalog at about $165 each. So no, I don't get jealous or weep. I'm always glad when Fortune favours us.

Great pick up Elle! It seems to me that if some of us Aussies want some real Aussie coin bargains, we need to do our shopping in the US.

Ditto these 2 posts:Quote: You bought a '46 Penny for 2 bucks? And see you collect Chopmarks too. Well, can't say I'm an avid collector, Elle ... but have 3 SpanAm Carolus IIII 8 reals with chopmarks meself. Cheers, Les
