I think I am gaining enough experience not to ask a really dumb question. But the jury is still out........ So here goes.

Attached is a photo my 1983 P LMC (there is no DDR listed for 1983 with this damage) and an inset of 1999P 1DR-013. Though they are different years, with similar damage, one is a DDR and the other isn't listed. Is my coin an undiscovered DDR, or is there a difference between the two that I am missing?

Thanks.

The only thing, I can see on yours is the column is polished off. Maybe a clash that they polished out, then it clashed again? Other bays on yours have clashes in them.

The Northeast corner of the 6th bay is polishing?
I guess I'm hallucinating.... I'm gonna have to lay off the Cabernet.

Your coin had been polished to remove a die clash.Your coin is not a DDR.

I would have to agree. You can see heavy abrasions throughout the bays. The column in question has had much of it polished away, leaving some clash remnants, that look similar to the doubling you are referring too.

Notice how column 7 is very narrowed due to the polishing - the Mint person just missed the top corner when 'fixing' the die.

Note the differences between to two different images? The coppercoins example is raised. On the OP's coins these are Machine Doubling flattening on that area. Not a DDR. If it were raised, only one bay area is affected. The DDR shows both bay areas affected.
