Very interesting.

I'm not familiar with these coins. Does the lack of portrait/legend detail result from the striking error, or is that circulation wear in addition to the error?

this coin is really worn. its in the good or ag range.

the inverted image on the reverse is the result of a different coin already being in the coining chamber when this coin was fed in. the first coin would have been fed in, struck and stuck to the reverse die. then this coin was fed in and struck causing an incuse image of the obverse where the reverse would have been. after that both coins would have been ejected, however this coin did not eject entirely so it as struck a second time quite a bit off center towards 12:00.

What is a "tag" double strike? I wonder if the obverse rim damage is from having to pry the coin out.

This is pretty incredible. Wonder why they let it get into circulation.

Thank you for that clarification, it is what I assumed. Image how spectacular this would have looked when it left the mint.

Nice example of a brockage Reminds me of the incuse design indian quarter and half eagles.

Coins like this give me the confidence to check cull bins. Many early mint errors are worn down and easily overlooked.
Suffering from bust half fever.

@kbbpll - a tag double strike is referring to a second strike that is so far off center that it creates a little tag like thing on the coin.
