2005 D penny proof coin?

I read that most proof coins are from San Francisco but this one has a Denver mint. Mark and has an odd color. Is this a proof coin? It weighs 2.5 g

Not a proof, as you stated all proofs were minted at San Francisco.
It is just a nice 2005D cent. The weight is correct for a zincoin.

Usually this happens when some zinc gets melted into the copper bath used to plate the zinc blanks. I keep them when I find them because it looks pretty cool.

Agree with jbuck. And yes, not a proof coin.

100% business strike...but a nice one and a keeper for the brassy color.

Not actually melted but dissolved into the electroplating bath as the electrolyte solution ages. It's kind of like worn out dies. LOL

Whey they are very different in color AND nice, I save them too. I only have a few because it's a common occurrence and I'll only keep them if they're high grade.

I could have sworn I typed dissolved. I knew it was dissolved when I replied. I know you have told us that before. Bad muscle memory I guess.
