I just got my Christmas bonus from my boss.
it is $1,000 USD!
Do I hold onto it to help pay for the elusive 1936 satin Proof (PCGS) graded cent, OR do I buy the item I have been watching for about 2 months - a 1950 proof Mint set in OGP? (The seller is asking $799.00 or best offer)

I'm leaning towards the 1950 set - which will complete my OGP Proof set dated from 1951 (at the moment to the present year.)

Well there is no picture of the first option as I'm still in the search for a nice one (the '36 proof), but I'll get the link to the ebay auction to you. (so long as I don't get sniped out of it..)

Get a '36 if you can find one! If not, you can always settle for the '50.

I already know what I want to get with my bonus, assuming it is as nice as last year.

Seems that the 1950 proof Mint set has been sold - was that you, Dearborn?

Well, yes, that was me. When I checked my account and saw the offer (which could have been waiting for me to see before I started this topic) I had to jump on it.
I have seen when a sell makes an offer, they usually send it out to several 'watchers'. I have been watching this item for about 2 months (with a re-listing in between). At this price, I have what I believe is going to be a good purchase. The seller is at 100% feedback - which is a good sign. They also posted a lot of pictures (also good).
I have been looking for some time (so, yes I took my time to think about it).
This year set I have see going for almost $1,000.00, so if I need to I could possibly re-sell it (which I don't think I will...)

1936 satin FTW! There are way less of them than the proof sets.

That is true. I'll find that satin and get it, just need to find a nice one - that satin will need to be a very nice stand alone coin (in its PCGS holder - which is the only way I'll buy it) But that makes it expensive, way more than even PCGS values it.. which is my major problem, the sellers think it is made of 48 carrot gold..

Think of it this way. The 1936 satin is THE KEY coin for the 36 up proof series. They aren't going down in value.

Yes it is, but I'm not ready to drop 4 house payments on one just yet..
On the other hand - I did complete my 1950 to 2022 OGP Proof sets. Now hat I no longer need to get that, I'll be putting away spare cash for the satin.

Mr. Frog, I have not yet found a satin '36 yet. As soon as I do, I'll post it up.
