I can't imagine any other manner to create what you show here, The circular rim transfer on the obverse and possible memorial transfer on the reverse, from a high degree of pressure from one coin or object to the 99 cent, could possibly create what we see here. The odd design running through Lincoln's face has a Central America or Mayan flare to it. It is easier to see on the last image. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
