Hey guys,

This penny has doubling on the 44 and I think the matching example is DDO-016 on VV. But there are a few similar, so i'd love opinions.

That area has an issue with master hub enhancement for that year. Meaning they could be seen on the fresher die states.

They are seen on the fresher die states, die wear removed them as the dies aged. So that is not date doubling. The Class 6 doubled dies are the hub doubled DDO's

Sometimes. On this one is it not Machine Doubling but a different issue. As the master hub was aging, they used to use an enhancement of the out side edge of the master hub to enhance the fields and bust outline, called channeling:

This also is seen on the earlier die state wheat cents, but wears off as the die ages. Note the affected area on your coin is not flat looking like Machine Doubling, but is part of the channel that you are seeing. (Thus an another example of an earlier die state on your coin)

CoopHome: What is master hub enhancement, and how is it seen on the coins struck with a fresher die? The fresher dies will show the enhances done one on the earlier die examples. on this coin the areas around the date and forehead. master die enhancements, that still show on earlier die states of altered master hub die issues.

Nice find! But I think the photos would turn out much better if you were to temporarily remove the coin from the 2x2 first.

Please no screen shots. They are too pixelated to be of much use. There is a photo section here on CCF, perhaps they can help you with your closeups.
