Hello,

I am sure someone will know this far more immediately than my 20+ minute search. I picked it up at a market today for €10.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

It's about the size of an index fingernail...

XRF testers help to test metal content then researching your coin where it comes from what time period its supposed to be from would help. Check with a coin shop that buys gold they might have one but they are like 24,000 dollar machines. If you get a coin expert look at your coin they might be able to tell you if its real. The easiest way is to join NGC and go on the chat forum and post a new chat under newbie and ask the questions you want to ask about your coin the experts will find you and answer your questions. If you have the money I recommend the platinum membership it's 270 dollars a year but the chat rooms make it possible to answer your coin question even before you buy a coin by posting pictures on a scale and showing close ups of the coin you have questions about. Don't look for the experts their if you are a newbie they will find you!

Thanks @Pigeo, I have had dozens of coins attributed here on this forum; folks on the forum are wonderfully friendly, helpful, and there is no membership fee. I have learned a lot on these pages; I am very confident this coin is authentic, just looking for confirmation, some conversation, and attribution.

Your coin is Constantius II and though the mintmark is hard to make out, it seems to be from Antioch.

Is this possibly an unlisted coin?

I see RIC 49variation with a bull's head on the banner with PDC bust but your bust is plain, not cuirassed.

@Bian... I am not the right person to ask. I own, literally, three ancients. I bought this one for €10 because I like the strike, 90% of what I find in Rome is fake, of the remaining 10% most are illegible, damaged, etc.

I am curious to learn more though and hear what others have to say.

I think that this coin is most likely the very common RIC VIII Antioch 54. There is no such thing as a bulls head on any GLORIA EXERCITVS...this is merely Pareidolia. What some want to see as the horns of a bull is merely a phalera (a round sculpted disc awarded for military achievements) that the engraver may not have positioned dead center of the banner. I have an older topic about this on some Arles coinage--
