First off, this is not my coin. I saw it in an ebay auction in November, paired with a 1910 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln. The two coins sold for $202. I was a bidder, but backed off from the auction because I have been burned more than once by altered colored Lincolns and Indian Head cents.

I would appreciate the opinions of those who know more about small cents on this coin. Thanks.

Here's the original auction:

Here are enlargements of the seller's photos:

What puzzles me is why the seller says they are close to AU . Another words he's saying they are less than AU . I can see your concern about altered color on these 2 coins . I believe you did good by backing away from continued bidding .

When frolicking in numismatics, trust your gut.

Seller does not offer returns. Draw your own conclusions.

My thoughts....the pictures suck. LOL

I think his light is cutting through the patina. I can see a little luster in the 10S reverse picture. Both coins appear to be mint state.

Appears to be MS, but stay away from any seller who does not offer returns.

Thanks for the comments. These types of coins are still so hard for me to accurately grade. I'm still working to correctly ID original mint red.

Something looks off on this one. Maybe Chinese made?
