I was taken by the toning on this 1893 Columbian Half Dollar. I got the coin for $17.00. It still has decent luster and looks to have a bit of rub on the high points of Columbus' bust. I would guess a lower range AU coin?

i dont know much about grading these but I do see some what looks like wear on the cheek so I'm inclined to agree with your AU assessment.

$17 is a very decent price for this coin. ugly circulated examples are around $20 most of the time.

Guessing it changed hands a few times many years ago, so I'll say AU-58, but a good value at this price whatever the grade.

Based on the images provided, I would agree with your assessment. My eyes see wear on the high points on each side: obverse - cheek, eyebrow, hair; reverse - sails.

That said, it remains, overall, an attractive coin without noticeable damage (devices, fields or at the rim). I think a grade in the AU 50-53 range is fair.

IMO, you got it at a good price!

Agree with mid AU. Clean coin at a nice price.

A fair proportion of this issue saw at least some circulation.

Although now always collectible in any condition, this example slightly below average grade, for the whole population of those surviving.
Obv Columbus' hair detail fuzzy, due to wear
Rev. high points of sails have flat areas, due to wear.

AU-50.
