Not sure what this is called, my first thought was lamination, but I liken that to some of the coin being missing, like it was peeled off the surface, at least that's how my challenged lil mind interpreted!! This looks like there was something extra dripped onto surface, just before the last strike or something? Surely this isn't a Greaser huh?

I agree it looks like a Retained Cud.

I see a die break from the rim that may have caused the Cud... just a thought.

I will say it is characteristic for pre-cud. me I say to those pre-cuds like this it is an 0.3A Cud. Why? because we has different stages of Cuds. So A mean first stage. The 0. mean pre-cud and the digit after come from the degree of pre-cud 1 to 5 and then will be a Cud.

I call it a Retained die break, which I believe is equivalent to 'pre-cud'.

Retained Cud, yearning to 'drop away' and become a full Cud.

When you put it like that, I must be a retained collector!! Maybe one day I'll be full!! I'm still a Lil fuzzy on the whole " Cud" idea, or how it happens, retained vs full, regular vs reverse (reverse may not be the word I'm trying to conjure up, thought I remember a member suggesting that term after viewing post), guess I need to do some homework

Also, do the elements on the obverse look a Lil fat and doughy to anyone else? I mean at what point to you stop looking further and just chalk it up to circulation flattening?
