There are five other endogenous floating die clashes listed on maddieclashes.com. There is one exogenous floating die clash (i.e., one not connected to a Cud). Brian Raines insists there are other endogenous floating die clashes, but he never publishes them. He just turns around and sells them.

I'll have to ask Brian about that next time I see him. He certainly sees a lot of coins so I am tempted to believe him, but also seen some mistakes in his analysis as well so would like to see examples before getting too excited.

Brian showed me one purported endogenous floating die clash. It was on a cent from the early 1980s, as I recall. There was a small Cud through TRUST or thereabouts, and some associated die damage, but I couldn't make out any recognizable design elements under my loupe.

Reminded me of a 1975-D cent that had part of the die loosened and left a struck through of the die on the event coin:

The title of the listing (years ago) was "Shattered die". To find the coin and the die on the same coin was very odd.

Coop, no. There is no struck through on that 1975-D. The remarkable pair is a coin with a Cud and the missing piece of die that created the Cud. Tom Delorey's description of the coin and fragment's origin is nicely written up alongside the Cud attribution on cuds-on-coins here: http://cuds-on-coins.com/lincoln-ce...s-1970-1979/

But that does show pretty nicely what the fragment would look like that created the floating die clash on my coin, as a fragment similar to that one, but from the date region, was struck by the obverse die to create the clash.

The chip of the surface off the die was flipped over (1975-D) leaving a copy of the other side of the split off of the shattered area.

On your coin: is that your coin on the other site? Or are their other examples?

While quite rare, there are a number of these known. The one on the other site is not the coin posted here.

I don't have the coin back yet but the grade for this coin has come in. PCGS MS65RD, which is a pretty good score for an error coin.

Awesome purchase tropicalbats! Nice grade too. I've always wanted one of these, but they're out of my price range unfortunately.

Very nice find, worth a slab I'd say.
